2007 release. Jaco Pastorius audaciously billed himself the World's Greatest Bass Player- and he was. His unpresidented technique on the fretless electric bass and revolutionary musical innovations have influenced every bass player who followed him. Often called the Jimi Hendrix of the bass, his dazzling ability to solo melodically over the beat forever re-imagined the role of the instrument. These 27 tracks showcase Jaco in the studio and live, as leader of small groups and big bands; with key collaborators, including ground- breaking fusion band Weather Report, Pat Metheny, Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock. Also includes the rare track 'Dreamland' with Michel Colombier. 2007 is the 20th anniversary of Jaco's death at age 35.
