SKY ISLAND

2011 release. Limited Japan only release. “Sky Islands” has been one of the most requested titles in Audiophile Imports history. Caldera was an American band, that combined jazz, funk and rock with a wide variety of Latin music. 1970s fusion explorers like Return To Forever and Weather Report influenced Caldera, but its members were also influenced by everything from Earth, Wind & Fire’s soul/funk to Afro-Cuban salsa, Brazilian samba and Andean/Peruvian music. Only two of Caldera’s four releases were ever issued on CD, but unfortunately both are long out of print. “Sky Islands” was the band’s second release in 1979 and widely considered their finest. Musicians: Jorge Strunz, guitars, percussion; Eduardo del Barrio, pianos, keyboards; Steve Tavaglione, flutes, saxophones; Dean Cortez, electric bass; Carlos Vega, drums; Mike Azeredo, congas, percussion & Hector Andrade, timbales, congas, percussion.
